I just had the car serviced at 122,000 miles and the shop manual called for the belt to be changed at 120,000 miles. I did not go to the dealer because of cost.

1998 Volvo s70 calls for the timing belt to be replaced at 70,000 miles or every 7 years, whichever comes first, not 120,000. For 1999s and up, it's 105,000 miles or 7 years, whichever comes first. If the belt snaps the engine is gone. VERY IMPORTANT to know. I've known 1996 850, 1998 S70 and now 1999 S70. Call your dealership to verify.
